Arsene Wenger has claimed that Aaron Ramsey has all the qualities to become a captain at Arsenal with Per Mertesacker set to expire in the summer (via The Metro).
Next summer promises to bring much change at Arsenal Football Club. The contracts of Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Özil are set to expire and the Gunners are also set to say goodbye to Per Mertesacker.
The German will retire in the summer and Arsene Wenger will need to appoint a new club captain to replace the 32-year-old.
Mertesacker has been the club captain since the departure of Mikel Arteta back in 2016. Now, speculation is rife about who could replace the German next season with Aaron Ramsey cited as a possible long-term appointment.
“Why not? It is all there,” Wenger replied when asked about the Welshman’s viability to the role.

“He has maturity, has improved technically and is more conscious of the importance of his technical qualities.
“His game is clean. He has a huge physical power.”
Aaron Ramsey would be an excellent long-term appointment as Arsenal captain, we even suggested as such July last year. The Welshman has had so many ups and downs during his time at the Emirates with injuries, poor form and comebacks aplenty. We’ll have to wait and see how Ramsey progressed during the following season.
