The Cameroon international has found breaking into the first-team difficult at the Nou Camp, as it was always going to be, but still looks content with reduced playing time, for now.
Song is quoted as saying by the Metro:
I am happy at Barcelona.
I play in one of the best leagues in the world, everybody treats me very well, and there are some of the best players in the world here.
You don’t know what might happen in the future, but I still have a few years left on my contract here.
While a move back to the Emirates doesn’t look to be on the cards any time soon, Song also revealed he still holds a close affinity to Arsenal saying:
I still watch every Arsenal game.
I hope they are successful this season and can win something.
When asked about the possible return of Alex Song, opinions among Arsenal fans are generally mixed. It is certainly easy to see why with such a stacked midfield as of now.

Currently Arteta and Flamini are the two players that take up the defensive midfield role, with the latter the more pure defensive midfielder and the former more of a deep-lying play-maker.
The main difference with Song is that you get a more athletic and physically strong player that is likely to be more effective at the doing the dirty work, if he didn’t so often shirk his defensive responsibilities and venture up-field.
Comparing Song to Flamini, I would say that the Frenchman is much more disciplined in his role and is more tactically aware of his role in the team. His leadership qualities have also been invaluable at Arsenal so far this term.
While in the case of Arteta, much of the same can be said. In Song’s final year at Arsenal he managed 11 assists, but that probably gained him recognition at the wrong side of the pitch. A lot of the covering was done by Arteta when Song decided to go on an offensive adventure.
Therefore, personally I am not particularly keen on his possible return, but of course this is my own opinion. What do you guys think? Feel free to leave a comment below!
