Hey allArsenal.com fans! We have received many emails as well as a few comments when asked about what formation you guys think the Arsenal team should look like, including transfers that have yet to eventuate but are hotly favoured to happen.
After much deliberation this is the formation we have considered most popular among gooner fans:
Sagna Cahill Vermaelen Gibbs
Gervinho Van Persie (c) Mata
Notable exclusions: Miyaichi (more favoured to a substitute role)
Cahill vs. Jagielka: From the central-defender standpoint, it was definitely a two horse race between Jagielka and Cahill. Although George and Jamie summed up the benefits of signing Cahill which edged him above Jagielka. George stated “I prefer Cahill to Jagielka as he is an extra 2 inches taller (need that extra height)” and Jamie stated: “He is great player and has many years left in him at the top-flight.” We here at allArsenal.com agree with what each of these fans had to say and is sure to be a great buy if Arsene pays up for him!
Gibbs vs. Enrique: With the unrest at Toon many fans e-mailed in to say he would be a great acquisition to play at left back, although seeing as though he has already completed a move to Liverpool, what was once possible is now never likely to happen otherwise we would have included him in the team. The possibility was there but it seems Wenger has great faith in Gibbs to step-up to the plate. Hopefully injury does not strike with Afobe stating: “No doubt Gibbs will be injured three-quarters of the season.”
Mata: With Fabregas effectively out the door we have received word from many fans that Mata would definitely raise Arsenal spirits if he were to sign with Arsenal. Amilcar summed it up saying: “The formation is exciting…if we can get Cahill (for Jagielka) and Mata. I especially like Mata coming to the team in the absence of Fabregas.” There is no doubt a huge majority of Arsenal fans would like to see Mata who has great technical skill, speed and finishing as well as that Spanish flair. With £35m reported to be coming in from Fabregas’ departure lets hope Wenger can make this still happen!
Gervinho: There is no doubt Gervinho has impressed in the appearances he has made in pre-season. He looks venomous and hungry and looks to be a very tidy finisher. An interesting comment came from Jason who said: “In Gervinho we have what looks like a passionate player who genuinely is proud to wear the jersey, he looks committed!” We have to agree. Gervinho has spoken of his great desire to come to Arsenal and regards signing for the gunners the best day of his life and it showed on his debut. Bagging a brace in half an hour, he looks likely to score a substantial amount of goals the coming season!

Nasri: Many gooners wrote in to say how Nasri would work great in the middle in the absence of Cesc. While we have agreed and put him in Fabregas’ usual position, it is a shame to see that it seems likely he will also follow the Spaniard out the exit door being reported to be keen on a move to the moneybags capital, Manchester City who are rumoured to be offering £23m up-front. Gunner14 supports this, sending in: “Nasri operates good in the middle…it is his preferred postiton. But it all means s*** as these reports surrounding his future only mean hes going to leave anyway.” Harsh words, but looking increasingly true as he has been pulled from the squad to face Newcastle. Jadson looks a possible replacement who has been reported to have had talks with Arsenal on Thursday.
Miyaichi: Last but least there is Miyaichi. He looks very exciting, willing to take on players with deceptive foot-work. A small few of you installed great confidence in the lad by saying he is worthy of a starting spot, although a lot more thought he would be an excellent impact player off the bench who could shake things up if the situation called for it. Arsenal4Life said: “Being Miyaichi’s first year in the Premier League I think he would be better off the bench. Great trickery, great speed….bring him on after 60 mins and he will shake things up if need be.”
There you have it then Arsenal fans! The team you wanted is up and ready. We have yet to see the fate of Nasri but it looks likely he will go and we also have yet to see the fate of Mata who is a hopeful for many Arsenal fans. The situation so far has been summed up quite well by OGUNFOWORA ADETOBI who said: “Well, well, well, its been talk talk but no action, if it took almost a month to sign Gervinho, it looks as though its going to take another month to get other defender who ought to be in by now to integrate well in to the team, or what is theaim of PRE-SEASON my dear Gunners.” The season ahead looks to be nerve-racking! Come on Arsene! Make this team a reality!
