We’ve recently been linked with a move for Borussia Dortmund’s Henrikh Mhitaryan, but are apparently facing serious competition from London rivals Chelsea, according to German publication Bild.
The Armenian international has been one of Europe’s top performers this season, smashing in goals and supplying plenty of assists too. He’s understandably being monitored by a huge number of clubs, but most of the recent reports have suggested he’ll be making a move to the Premier League.
Bild claims Chelsea saw a €60m bid turned down last summer, so the 27-year-old clearly isn’t going to come cheap. A fee like that is likely to have already priced Arsene Wenger out of the market, but that probably won’t stop the Dortmund star being linked with a move to north London.
There were reports earlier this season suggesting Mkhitaryan was house hunting in London ahead of a move to Arsenal, but the rumour was rubbished after it emerged that it was in fact his sister that was moving to London (via the Metro). We could still see Mkhitaryan make the switch to London, although now there are clearly multiple Premier League teams chasing his signature.
Arsenal transfer news
While his 11 goals and 18 assists in 29 league appearances obviously suggest he’d improve any team in the world, he’s not exactly what we’re crying out for at the moment. We really need a goalscoring forward rather than an attacking midfielder, and unless Wenger is planning on converting Mkhitaryan to a full-time wide player then it’s hard to see where he’d fit in.
