Arsenal have confirmed that Santi Cazorla is set to undergo surgery to correct an ankle problem and is expected to be out of action for the next three months.
The Spaniard has been sidelined since picking up the problem in the Champions League clash with Ludogorets and has been badly missed by the Gunners.
Speaking after Wednesday’s defeat to Southampton in the EFL Cup Wenger admitted he still did not know when Cazorla could feature and admitted there was no improvement in the problem.
The club have now confirmed that Cazorla will go under the knife imminently in a bid to correct the problem.
“Santi Cazorla is travelling to Sweden early next week to undergo surgery to his right ankle,” read a statement on the official Arsenal website.
“The club’s medical team and specialists have decided that surgery is required to the plantaris tendon in the Spain international’s right foot.

“The problem has not progressed during a rehabilitation programme following the injury during the home match with Ludogorets on October 19.
“We expect Santi’s full recovery to take approximately three months.
“Everyone at the club will be working hard with Santi to make sure he’s back on the pitch as soon as possible.”
The news will be a big blow to the Gunners who have struggled to find their best form without the influential midfielder in the side in recent weeks.
There will also be concern that Cazorla underwent surgery last season to correct a knee problem, and was expected to be out for three months, but which effectively ruled him out of the rest of the campaign.
