Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is considering a shock move for Bayer Leverkusen striker Javier Hernandez, according to Spanish football website Don Balon (via talkSPORT).
The 27-year-old Mexican international has been lighting up the German Bundesliga since arriving from Manchester United over the summer. And in a deal believed to be worth a paltry £7 million (via talkSPORT), has proved excellent value – scoring 18 goals in just 21 appearances for the North Rhine Westphalia club.
Gunners boss Arsene Wenger has been impressed by the Central American’s performances, and thinks he may be the added piece of insurance Arsenal could use as they look to mount what is expected to be a serious challenge for this season’s Premier League title.
Hernandez was never given a chance at Manchester United by new manager Louis van Gaal, who immediately shipped him out on loan to Spain, where he mainly served as a bench warmer for a star-studded Real Madrid team.
On his return to Old Trafford, the Dutchman still had no use for Hernandez in his team and let him leave to join Bayer Leverkusen. The former Red Devil is now playing the best football of his life though, scoring more goals on his own than the entire Manchester United team combined.
Hernandez may not be the world class striker that Arsenal fans have been calling for in recent seasons, but he’d certainly offer us a bit more depth up front. Theo Walcott and Olivier Giroud have been excellent this season, but we’ve seen the impact injuries can have on our side far too often.

Arsenal transfer news
Bayer Leverkusen are currently 7th in the Bundesliga, standing just five points behind 3rd place Hertha BSC. This unfortunately leads us to believe that no matter how much Wenger might want to bring Chicharito back to the Premier League, Bayer head coach Roger Schmidt would never sanction a deal.
