The Spaniard has been linked with a move back to Spain recently (via the Daily Star), but seems likely to remain at Arsenal instead.
The Star’s report claims a new £75,000 per week deal is set to be signed, with a verbal agreement already in place.
Monreal struggled when he first joined the club, and looked like another one of Arsene Wenger’s failed purchases. There has been a marked improvement in his displays however, and he deservedly wrestled a starting spot off Kieran Gibbs last season.
The 29-year-old should start the season as our first-choice left-back, but must keep his performances at a high level if he hopes to keep Gibbs out of the side.
