The 27 year old has just entered the final year of his contract at the Bernabeu and has so far rejected Madrid’s extension offer as it doesn’t meet his wage demands. It appears both parties are keen for the midfielder to move away. The Gunners have been strongly linked with a move for the German international and speculation last month suggested that we had come to an agreement with Real Madrid for this signature.
Spanish football expert Graham Hunter has now confirmed that a deal was agreed between the two clubs, but the World Cup winner’s salary expectations brought an end to Arsenal’s interest. He said:
Club to club, the deal between Arsenal and Real Madrid is done.
But Arsenal didn’t fancy paying Khedira the wages he wanted.
Style of Play:
Khedira is good at plugging gaps and also breaking forward at pace, while he has more energy and mobility than Arteta. He likes to press higher up the pitch to win the ball back, which makes him more suited to the box to box role. His defensive abilities do really stand out and it’s not unreasonable to suggest that he will vastly improve Arsenal’s solidity in their own half.

Should we buy?
The situation as it stands is that Madrid are ready to sell if Khedira will not sign a new deal. The Gunners have an agreement in place with the Spaniards but are refusing to pay him what he wants, so any deal is dependent on the player lowering his salary demands which looks unlikely. As a result the North London club have shifted their attentions to William Carvalho of Sporting Lisbon.
Carvalho is now emerging as a far more likely signing as he will only ask for a fraction of what Khedira wants and is also five years younger. The Portuguese star might not be that experienced, but he possesses all the qualities to make a good impression in the deeper midfield role for Arsenal. Although there is a good chance that we may still sign Khedira, it’s looking likely to rather be Carvalho.
