Reported Arsenal target Morgan Schneiderlin has denied agreeing a deal with Arsene Wenger, but insisted that he is keen to leave Southampton to play at the “highest level”.
The Frenchman was involved in a transfer saga at the back end of the window last summer and it seems as though he will push for a move this year too; he has been heavily linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium.
Wenger is an obvious admirer of the 25-year-old and previously called him a “top, top player” (via Daily Mail), and reports have been rife that a deal has already been agreed for the summer (via Daily Star), something Schneiderlin has denied.
Arsenal transfer news
“I haven’t had contact with [Arsene] Wenger. Clubs are interested in me but I’ve not given my word to anyone,” he told Canal Plus (via Evening Standard).
“I want to play at the highest level, We players, we like competition. I think he (Yohan Cabaye joining PSG) does not regret his choice at all.”
Given the form and rise of Francis Coquelin, the need for a holding midfielder may not be drastic but a quick glance at the contractual situations of our current midfield and a move for Southampton’s main man becomes understandable.
