The £10million signing from Lille endured a disappointing season for the Gunners, scoring just five goals and he has been linked with a return to France with Lyon as well as a move to Turkish side Fenerbahce, but the forward is eager to prove his worth in north London.
Some reports have also suggested Newcastle are keen but now the Ivory Coast international wants to earn his place in the side and says he will stay until at least the end of his contract in two years’ time.
“I have a contract until 2015 with Arsenal and I intend to honor it,” Gervinho told Sky Sports.
“There is always speculation in the papers, but I am looking forward to a good holiday and to come back to Arsenal.”
“I want to win my place in the starting line-up week in, week out.”
Gervinho has struggled since joining Arsenal in 2011 and is thought to be valued at 12m Euros. He scored just five Premier League goals in 18 appearances in the 2012-13 season, following on the back of an underwhelming maiden season in England.
When the 2012-13 season rolled around and Gervinho was, once again, looking good early for the Gunners. There was, naturally, a sense of caution and hesitance to declare that the 26-year-old was primed for his breakout season in the Premier League. But as usual he again struggled in the latter part of the campaign. His quick pace often opened up defences but the main problematic part in his game is that he doesn’t know what to do when he gets into the box and often looses the ball which has lead to the downfall of the team.

I would love to see Gervinho regularly in an Arsenal shirt, but Wenger has to get tough with him. He is not young anymore and he should just be hitting his prime, so he has to improve on his nine Premier League goals in two seasons. Wenger showed his ruthless side this season with Vermaelen and Szczesny and now he needs to have a serious word with Gervinho. He has tried boosting his confidence and being nice to him.
It will be a make or break season for Gervinho, and I sincerely hope he will make it, but I have my doubts. It is an important season for Arsenal and they should not rely on Gervinho and should get another striker if they sincerely thinking of putting up a title challenge.
