There weren’t any new players linked with us yesterday but there was a surprise via Arsene Wenger, who usually maintains utmost secrecy in his transfer moves, as he came out and spoke elaborately about the Gunners’ interest in Gabriel Paulista.
Here is the News round up from yesterday:
Arsene Wenger confirms £15m bid for La Liga defender
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has confirmed the Gunners are in talks with Villarreal for Gabriel Paulista. He suggested that there is a “50-50” chance of the defender making the move to the Emirates and although that may not seem like great odds, considering the fact that Wenger has openly discussed the move suggests it’s a deal that they will do their utmost to push through. He’s a well-rounded defender who would slot straight away into the Gunners back four. The worry is his lack of working visa to actually play in the UK.
Arsene Wenger confirms new deal on cards for in form Frenchman
It’s has been a great month for Coquelin and it’s only getting better as Wenger yesterday confirmed that a new deal is on the cards for the young Frenchman. He was recalled from a loan at Charlton Athletic to help fill a vacuous hole in defensive midfield and has done an excellent job in recent weeks. With Flamini and Arteta past their thirties it seems Wenger has identified Coquelin and new signing Bielik as the right players to replace the experienced pair.

Mesut Ozil to start for Arsenal v Brighton & Hove Albion
Arsene Wenger has confirmed that Mesut Ozil will make his long awaited comeback to the starting line-up when Arsenal take on Brighton in the FA Cup this weekend. He made his return to the first team earlier this month against Stoke City, but his comeback has been noticeably tentative as Wenger looks to ease him back into proceedings especially with the superb performances from Cazorla. It’s a vital opportunity for the German to show Wenger the mercurial gifts he possesses.
The most interesting piece yesterday was certainly the Paulista comments, were you surprised with Wenger’s open discussion about the player?
