The Dutchman’s future was cast in doubt following revelations by himself that he was not willing to enter contract negotiations until next summer, where he will only have 12 months remaining on his contract.
If that were to become the case, the circumstances could turn out exactly the same as the disaster with Gael Clichy and Samir Nasri last summer where both players turned down contract extensions with 12 months remaining on their contracts and were subsequently sold.
In a bid to try and stop the same scenario from happening, Arsenal are reportedly willing to offer the Dutchman a significant pay rise reportedly from £70,000 to £90,000 on a new four-year contract which is something of a rarity at Arsenal.
With insanely rich Russian club Anzhi on the radar for Van Persie’s signature, I suppose this will show where Arsenal’s priorities lie in terms of finances or silverware. Hopefully it is the latter as Van Persie is a easily the best player in our team!
