Rumours over new talisman Robin van Persie and Manchester ‘moneybags’ City are hotting up after out of favour Argentine Carlos Tevez refused to take to the field against Bayern Munich in City’s last Champions League tie, which they lost 2-0.
The act of ill-discipline has prompted City to launch a formal enquiry into the matter and suspend Tevez for two weeks. The act prompted Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini to say post-match that Tevez will never play for the team as long he is at the helm.
It is being reported that Tevez will be allowed to leave the club come the January transfer window where it is expected a much lower value of around £20m will prise the Argentine away from City following his fall-out with Mancini.
That now brings us to Van Persie, who is now in the last two years of his contract at the Emirates. We have all heard the story of the Dutchman delaying contract talks until the end of the season, which would effectively open up the door to City to lay on a huge bid if he refuses to sign a contract extension.
It is a familiar road for City, who continue to use us a feeder club with the likes of Adebayor, Toure, Clichy and Nasri all having made their move to what is now the Etihad Stadium. Now it is being reported that Van Persie is next on their list.
If they were to get the Dutchman, it would be another blow to Arsenal that would be extremely hard to recover from. It would be five players on City’s roster that were effectively made into stars at the Emirates. Oh the joys of Manchester City and their huge wads of cash!
