West Ham manager Sam Allardyce feels his powerhouse midfielder Mohamed Diame will still leave the club in January as the winter window nears closure, with Wenger a known admirer of the Senegal international.
Arsene Wenger has yet to make a move in the market yet and with a physical midfielder missing in the Gunners engine room Diame seemed like a possible option especially with his widely known £3.5million buyout clause.
Despite the French manager aiming to reinforce this winter, he seems to have gone off the idea of adding another midfielder to an already lengthy list of central players especially with Arteta and Coquelin nearing fitness, Ramsey performing admirably in the anchoring role and Diaby fit (for now – touchwood).
But nevertheless anything can happen during a transfer window, especially with Diame available so cheap. Spurs are also in for the Senegalese midfielder, and amidst all the rumours Allardyce has admitted that West Ham could loose him this month. He told reporters:
It is total confusion. I’m as confused as anyone. We might lose him. I hope we don’t.
Arsenal need strength in the midfield after being battered around by the likes of Chelsea and Manchester City in recent matches, they have however improved with victories over West Ham and Brighton but tomorrow’s fixture against Liverpool will provide a real test. Diaby seems the obvious route to take for the defensive midfield role which Wenger will have no problems with, however his fitness is always a concern but as long as he is not overplayed he can be an instrumental cog in the Arsenal unit.
The acquisition of Diame would however help bolster Arsenal’s options and further depth to a squad that has continually suffered with injury issues. But the best part of the deal is he is worth a cheap £3.5million and can then be sold off for the same or even a greater price further down the track if it does not work out for the Senegal midfielder.
