Although you can never be absolutely certain with suspect source the Mirror, I decided to put this rumour up because there is a pretty high chance injury will hit our new number one left-back one way or the other.
They report that Kieran Gibbs, now first choice left-back for Arsenal due to Gael Clichy’s departure to Manchester City, is yet again on the injury list due to a persistent ankle injury.
The injury forced Gibbs to withdraw from the European under-21 championships, with certified doctors agreeing that the injury was serious with it having the potential to cause long-term repercussions.
Although, in hindsight, by what was seen of Gibbs in the recent pre-season games, it seems it hasn’t affected him just yet which is great to see for the injury plagued left-back.
Even though he has gotten through pre-season unscathed, I along with many other Arsenal fans seem to foresee an injury hitting the unfortunate Gibbs and would like to see a replacement to make sure we are prepared for his absence.
With toon player Jose Enrique available many hoped that Wenger would snap him up to become Gibbs’ new mentor, but ‘surprisingly’ (cough cough) that did not eventuate.

While Enrique doesn’t look to find his way into the Arsenal ranks, Jagielka looks like a possibilty. Hopefully he is signed so their is the possibilty to shift Vermaelen out wide if necessary with Jagielka and either Djourou or Koscielny partnering in the middle. Personally I feel our defense NEEDS strengthening as we lack depth if any of our first-choice backs become injured, particularly in the middle and out left.
