It actually looks like a distinct possibility that Montpellier striker Olivier Giroud may become a Gunner this summer with his club’s manager admitting the star striker is keen on a move to the Emirates.
The highly rated forward, who is currently on international duty with France at the Euro 2012 competition, has come on in leaps and bounds especially over the past twelve months that saw him bag an impressive 21 goals and 9 assists last campaign and win his first cap.
Wenger is a known admirer of the 25-year-old, and manager Rene Girard has admitted Arsenal are the most likely candidates with Chelsea and Newcastle previously expressing interest.
Reliable source ESPN Soccernet revealed Girard told French radio station RMC:
Arsenal are very interested, and Giroud wants to play in England. If Arsene [Wenger] agrees with the president, he will sign for them.
Giroud has expressed that he will be deciding his future after the Euro’s so Gooners shouldn’t be getting too excited over a quick turn around, but the fact that the French international is edging closer to a move is extremely exciting.
While the media may see the move as a replacement for Van Persie, but the Gunners are in need for more quality forwards with Chamakh, Bendtner, Vela and maybe even Park set to depart this summer, so it will help convince Van Persie and fans that Arsenal can actually challenge for trophies next season.

Speaking of players leaving, Johan Djourou’s agent last week stated that his client is seeking a move away from the Emirates with his Swiss coach too egging the centreback to gain regular game time elsewhere.
But the Switzerland international, who has been with the North London side for an impressive ten years, is still keen to remain at the Emirates and fight for his place despite speculation mounting his set to make an £8million switch to Napoli
The 25-year-old is essentially the fourth choice central defender behind mainstays Thomas Vermaelen and Laurent Koscielny and last summer purchase Per Mertesacker, but still remains committed to the Arsenal cause.
He said on Twitter:
I just want to deny what has been in the press about my transfer. It isn’t true at all.
I have been at Arsenal for 10 years now and I am always committed.
Many expected Djourou to be an inevitable departure after the Euro’s with reports heating up that he was set to leave North London in search of regular playing time. The Swiss has been unfortunate during his time with the Gunners after a whole series of injuries notably a series knee problem in 2009 that saw him spend a large number of months on the treatment table.
Personally I’m happy either way whether Djourou stays or departs. He is a decent centrehalf for a fourth choice defender and can play out wide if necessary. But on the other hand it would be a good opportunity for some of the youngsters such as Miquel and Bartley to push for a start.
But the signs are extremely encouraging in terms of Giroud, hopefully he will be announced an Arsenal player soon after Euro 2012!
