If things aren’t already bad, the rumours circulating around today are set to make it even worse for Arsenal fans with many sources stating that Arsene Wenger has hinted at more stars leaving next summer.
At the end of the current season, star players Robin van Persie, Theo Walcott, Thomas Vermaelen and Andrey Arshavin will only have one remaining year on their contract to fulfill.
With Arsenal currently having their worst run in 58 years, Arsene Wenger may be forced to cash in on the quartet rather than lose them on free transfer as doubts about Arsenal’s ability to finish in the all important top-four increase.
Arsene Wenger said on the situation:
We will try to sign them but we have tried before. The gap on that front has become bigger for us. I cannot say that if we go to our maximum wage we are sure to sign the players.
We will try to convince them. Our desire is there and we are ready to sit down with them. After that we will see where we go.
Losing, in particular, Van Persie, Walcott and Vermaelen would be a disaster for the Arsenal team and would be very difficult to bounce back from. For the sake of the future of the club, it is crucial that the gunners secure a top-four spot.
