Gunners centreback Per Mertesacker has admitted that he has talked to his fellow German international team mate Lukaz Podolski on the phone and has hailed his attributes and believes he is a ‘powerful player’.
Mertesacker, 27, signed for Arsenal in the summer and after a nervy start to his Premier League career he has now settled into life in the English capital. He has become a first team regular and has been vital in Arsenals resurgence.
With Wenger short on attacking options, especially in January, Podolski has been tipped to move to North London and Mertesacker believes that he too can adapt to English football.
Mertesacker told Arsenal’s official website:
Of course I’ve been on the phone to him. He is a powerful, great player, especially for the national team.
He has scored a lot of goals, is a good striker with a very good finish. His left foot is unbelievable and I am a fan of him. The Premier League is a little different from the Bundesliga, but you get used to everything.
Podolski would be a perfect acquisition for the Gunners and hopefully Mertesacker’s input can persuade him to leave Cologne in January and add some extra fire power to the Arsenal frontline.
The versatile forward can also play out on the left flank which can be a real asset to the team as currently Van Persie is the only left footed striker/winger. Common Wenger get your cheque book out!
