Former Gunner Alex Song is unhappy at Barcelona according to his cousin, where he has played a bit-part role since exiting from Arsenal last summer.
The Cameroon international was in stunning form last season and became one of Wenger’s go-to men for inspiration. His departure came as a surprise with no real pressure from club or player to depart ways however the defensive midfielder left to the Catalan giants with no real replacement brought in.
The 25-year-old has made just twelve La Liga starts this season and is not a focal player like he was in England. While his cousin admits he is unhappy in Spain, he feels that in the future the midfielder’s qualities will help him gain more playing time.
Former Liverpool and Galatasaray defender Rigobert Song told:
Alex is not happy [at Barcelona]; at Arsenal he was a leader on and off the field, he doesn’t feel like the protagonist in Spain, it makes him feel bad.
He still has a long contract, until 2017. I do not think moving away is the right choice. All players want to play all the time but in Barcelona it is not easy.

Alex must have patience. His time will come because he has the qualities to do well.
It is difficult to see Song becoming a regular feature at the Nou Camp. It will take a series of injuries to key players which rarely seems to happen for the La Liga leaders.
At Arsenal he was guaranteed game time when fit, and while a star footballer often seeks higher competition to test themselves and improve their game, he needs regular action to satisfy the cravings especially at the peak age of 25.
The best thing for Song’s career would be to return to Arsenal. He did not leave on bad terms, has praised his former employers since the move and still has his best years ahead. He left for a reported £12m and would be acquirable at a similar fee. With Diaby ruled out for part of next season, Arteta is not getting any younger and does not have the physical presence the Cameroonian commands. Barcelona barely require him and would be better off cashing in on him this summer.
