Arsenal are among a host of Premier League clubs which sent scouts to watch Porto striker Andre Silva. The Portuguese forward has 10 goals so far this season including seven in the Primeira Liga (via The Sun).
Well the injury to Alexis Sanchez wasn’t exactly good news for Arsenal fans. The Chilean has been excellent up front for the Gunners this season but varying reports suggest that he could miss anything from a week to two months with a muscular injury.
With Danny Welbeck not due to return until the New Year and Lucas Perez out of action for the next few weeks, The Gunners are short up front.
Now it seems that Arsene Wenger and the club are planning ahead. The Sun reports that the club sent scouts to watch striker Andre Silva on the weekend. The Portuguese forward was in action for Porto in the 1-1 with last season’s Primeira Liga champions, Benfica.
He may not have found the net on the weekend but he has on numerous occasions this season. Silva has seven league goals so far this term as well as another three in the Champions League. Not bad for a 21-year-old in his debut season as a first team player.
Silva signed a new deal at the beginning of the season which upped his release clause from an estimated £22 million to what is now reportedly £53 million. However it seems that Arsenal are not the only club not put off by the price tag. The Gunners weren’t alone in scouting the Portuguese international on the weekend. Manchester United, Manchester City, Chelsea and Juventus all reportedly had representatives at the game.

Andre Silva is an interesting prospect and one of the in-form young players in Europe right now so it’s good that Arsenal are keeping tabs on him. Olivier Giroud, Alexis Sanchez and Lucas Perez are all 27 years old or older and realistically only have another few years left at this level. Things are going well on the pitch right now but it’s good that the club is still planning for the future.
