The pre-season squads for our tour of Asia have been announced (via Arsenal.com), and there’s one omission that may have rather large implications. Wellington Silva joined the club years ago, but due to work permit issues he was unable to actually make the move to North London – instead consigned to loans abroad.
Silva finally arrived this summer, but does the fact that he has not been included in the squad that will be heading out to Asia suggest he’s set for an Emirates exit?
The tricky winger was snapped in training with the rest of the squad a matter of days ago, but it doesn’t look like he’ll be linking up with his teammates for much longer.
The 22-year-old enjoyed mixed success while on loan at clubs like Almeria, Levante, and Murcia, but he is yet to show anything that suggests he’s ready for first-team action with Arsenal. You might argue that if he was going to prove that he has what it takes to succeed at the club, that he would have done so already. It wouldn’t be a big surprise to see him leave the club this summer, despite recent talks of a contract extension ESPN.
