We have been linked with a somewhat surprising move for Fernando Llorente in recent weeks (via the Express), with the Spanish forward potentially being seen as a last resort if we can’t sign a striker the calibre of Karim Benzema or Robert Lewandowski (via the Metro).
It would be disappointing to see Llorente arrive at the club, as it’s hard to see him improving our side in any way. The fact that he’s been left out of Juventus’ squad for their upcoming friendly against Marseille though (via Juventus.com), suggests that he may well be on the move this summer.
We should only be targeting top quality players from now on, with the team only likely to be improved by the world’s elite stars. Llorente certainly doesn’t fit into that category, and it’s questionable whether he’d even get any game time ahead of Olivier Giroud and Theo Walcott.
With an £8.5m fee (via the Express) being touted for the 30-year-old, we should really be hoping this one doesn’t happen. It would be a waste of our cash reserves and wages, and would only take up a squad spot.
Surely we are at the point where we can do far better than Fernando Llorente?
