We are facing a truly tough test this Sunday, despite the season not even having begun yet. Our Community Shield clash with Chelsea could give us a huge confidence boost heading into the Premier League campaign, or we could be getting ready for our first game against West Ham with a bitter taste in our mouths.
Our pre-season form has been excellent, with some fantastic performances from some surprising sources. Arsene Wenger is going to have some decisions to make, with a number of players vying for a regular starting spot this season.
Here is how we believe Arsenal will line up against Chelsea in the Community Shield:
GK) Petr Cech
The former Chelsea man is likely to start against his old club on Sunday, and we really need him to put a performance in. It would be a huge psychological victory were we to get the win over Jose Mourinho’s side, and all the more so if Cech were to play a starring role.

RB) Hector Bellerin
The Spaniard should unquestionably keep his starting spot heading into the new season, as his performances in pre-season have been excellent. Arsene Wenger has been lining up with a back four of Per Mertesacker, Laurent Koscielny, Kieran Gibbs, and Mathieu Debuchy in recent weeks however, so hopefully that isn’t a sign of things to come.
LB) Nacho Monreal
Just like his compatriot Bellerin, Monreal really proved himself last season. He really made the left-back spot his own, and Gibbs has done nothing in pre-season to suggest he deserves his place back.
CB) Per Mertesacker
Mertesacker has obviously formed an excellent partnership with Koscielny, but Gabriel looks close to pushing for a starting spot. The giant German is likely to start the season as first-choice, but he will have to keep his performance levels high.
CB) Laurent Koscielny
Unquestionably our best centre-back, the Frenchman is one of the first names on the teamsheet when fit. The other defenders on our roster will have to fight for a place alongside him.
