Arsenal want to sign Southampton defender Virgil van Dijk this summer with Arsene Wenger keen to move to a permanent back three, according to The Mirror.
Wenger caused a huge surprise on Monday night, switching to a new 3-4-3 formation for the trip to Middlesbrough with the Gunners emerging with all three points after a 2-1 win.
The report claims that the Frenchman is now keen to continue with his new formation and wants to sign the Dutch centre-half this summer to strengthen his defence.
Van Dijk has been a huge hit at Southampton but is expected to leave St Mary’s this summer with Chelsea and Manchester City also linked with a move.
Arsenal are also being linked with a move for Schalke full-back Sead Kolasinac who is expected to sign for the Gunners shortly.
Wenger’s side have been poor defensively in recent weeks with Hector Bellerin and Shkodran Mustafi both far from their best, although it has been revealed that the full-back is still struggling with an ankle injury.

Van Dijk would be a huge signing for Arsenal and would bring power and confidence to a backline that has looked increasingly fragile as the season has progressed.
The report also claims that Wenger could return to a back four for Sunday’s FA Cup semi-final against Manchester City but has been encouraged by playing with a back three in training.
