Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger insists he is “not scared to spend money” in the final days of this summer’s transfer window and says he is aware of the club’s need to strengthen in the transfer market but says he is focused on signing quality players.
The Gunners have allowed 17 players to leave this summer but brought in only one new face young striker Yaya Sanogo on a free transfer after failing to conclude several deals.
Wenger who has missed out on a string of transfer targets this summer said that the club are aiming to bring in at least 2 or 3 new faces before the transfer window closes.
According to Arsenal official website, he said :
I understand every frustration, you have so many frustrated people, but what is important is the quality of what you do on the pitch, so let’s not create a crisis from nothing.
We just played a good game last week [against Manchester City] so let’s transfer that to the next game and not start to convince everybody that the quality of the team that starts on Saturday will be linked with the number of players we buy between today and tomorrow.
The quality of the team will be linked with the performance of every player who plays [against Aston Villa].

I am optimistic of course [of making signings] but it is very difficult for me to give you a number.
We look more for quality than for numbers. The first request is to have the quality to play for Arsenal Football Club, after the number comes in. Yes, we would like two or three players if possible but we will not compromise on the quality of the players.
Wenger has acknowledged the squad is thin and confirmed that the club are continuing to work hard to bring in new players. He added :
I don’t disagree that we are a bit light at the moment. There are 18 days to go until the end of the transfer market and we are of course looking to strengthen our squad.
I don’t want to come out on any specific name because that would not be right. Usually in the press, you are well informed.
Ideally you would want it to be quicker, but to finalize any transfer you need the agreement of three parties. You can see from our main rivals that it is not easy.
It’s not a question of spending the money, it’s a question of finding the right players. As I told you, you are well informed, you certainly heard that we are not scared to spend money. But we want the right players.
With squad players such as Gervinho, Marouane Chamakh, Andrei Arshavin, Andre Santos and Johan Djourou all being shown the exit this summer, Arsenal suddenly find themselves incredibly short in terms of available players.
I think Arsenal will need a minimum of 2 to 3 signings to at least field a full fit squad. With the injury to Arteta we are now somewhat short in midfield too coupled with the already short defense, Arsenal now have the weakest available squad that i can remember.
The thing i don’t understand is why had we waited until this late in the transfer window to fill the squad places as it was clear from the offset itself that we will clear the deadwood and free up places. It looks like it is going to be a tense and nervous couple of weeks for Arsenal fans.
With just about 17 days to go it will be race against time for Arsenal to fill the squad places let alone signing a Marquee player. What say Gooners?
