Self proclaimed ‘best striker in the world’ Nicklas Bendtner can pinpoint one occasion that spurred him on to move away from Arsenal and that was his omission from the starting team in the Carling Cup final.
Arsenal went on to lose that match 2-1, but even before the result the Dane had made up his mind to leave after he saw the team-sheet for highly anticipated match.
The Dane said on his omission from the team:
I can point to a precise moment I knew I had to leave. It was when I looked at the team sheet before the Carling Cup final and saw that I was not going to start.
It was my worst moment in football. I was sad, stunned and disappointed beyond measure.
I had played all our matches in the competition, scored goals and I was feeling really sharp. I felt things would never be good for me again at Arsenal after that.
While it was clear the Dane was going to leave, I can’t help but feel he may have been useful this season as an impact player off the bench. No doubt the lad is arrogant but I feel he did have some talent that is at the very very least is on par with Chamakh. What do you guys think?
