It has been revealed that Arsenal have made a club record bid of £18m for Valencia winger Juan Mata, according to both The Daily Mail and The Sun. If true this comes as a revelation that finally Wenger is willing to splash the cash on top class players.
With the under-21 Euro trophy now added to his World Cup medal over the weekend, it seems Mata is open to dicussing his future with Valencia reportedly £327 in debt. Although Arsenal have started with a strong bid there is also stiff competition with the likes of Liverpool and Barcelona who are keeping an eye on the situation.
Mata came up through the Real Madrid youth system and is regarded to have a great eye for goal and creative midfield play that would see the blow of Fabregas’ departure softened. He has made an appearance for Spain in the World Cup within the group stages and was considered an integral part of Spain’s under-21 Euro winning side.
It is good to see that Arsenal are starting to be linked with established and proven top class players. The fact that this bid has been placed suggests to me Arsene is willing to change the philosophy he has adopted for so many years in an attempt to finally end our long trophy drought. What do you think? Would Mata fit well into the Arsenal line-up? Would he be a good acquisition for Arsenal?
