German legend Lothar Matthaus has once again insisted that Nurnberg striker Josip Drmic will sign for Arsenal in the summer.
The Gunners have been heavily linked with the 21 year old striker, who has been a surprise package in the Bundesliga this season scoring 16 goals.
Matthaus earlier claimed that Drmic’s wife was in London house hunting which meant a move was on the horizon. He took a step back from the statement as the striker is not yet married. However, he does still believe he will join Arsenal and the fee rumoured is around €4.5 million. He said:
Although now Dortmund, Gladbach and Leverkusen also have interest in him. I’m saying: Josip Drmic will move to Arsenal.
I made a mistake. I said his wife was already looking at apartments. The fact is that this is his girlfriend. Drmic has a girlfriend of nine months. She lived five or six months with him in Nuremberg.
Look, if a journalist hears something, he researches and writes about it. I’m kind of a journalist at Sky and have heard the rumour of a move to Arsenal.

I then found out that this is true and he’s going there. So the research is clear.
Drmic, who began his professional career as a footballer at FC Zurich, made his league debut in 2010, having risen through the youth ranks. He joined Nuremberg only last year, and has become one of the most prolific strikers in the Bundesliga in only his first season.
He has raw reserves of pace and for a player so young, his confidence and ability to play as a target man is exemplary. His off the ball movement will makes him a nightmare for opposition defenders and he’s comfortable with both feet. He is decent at setting up goals for his team mates and can also hold up play like Giroud, but his finishing is better than that of the Frenchman’s.
With the creativity that the Gunners have at their disposal, a player like Drmic could benefit and his goal-scoring haul this season has proven that he’s a good finisher, which would bolster Arsenal’s options. The club has Lukas Podolski and Theo Walcott as its best finishers but both players can’t lead the line on their own.
He is young and is relatively cheap, he would probably be allowed to leave for a fee in the region of €7 million. He fits the bill as an understudy to Olivier Giroud, and his experience on either flank would be appreciated by the Gunners. Signing him now would make sense for Arsenal as one or two decent showings at the World Cup would make Drmic much more expensive.
