In the first of a series of Fantasy Football pieces, I shall take a look at the fortunes of the Arsenal players, to investigate who is the best buy and who you should stay well away from. I’m sure many of you love to have Arsenal players in your team, but is that a good decision? All of the statistics will be based on the Barclays Fantasy Premier League.
How are Arsenal’s players faring?
The answer is pretty poorly, and if you’ve crammed your team with three Arsenal players then it probably wasn’t the best decision. Defensively Arsenal have struggled to keep clean sheets, meaning that Szczesny and his defenders are struggling for points, Koscielny being the best bet but also the most expensive one.
At the same time Arsenal’s strikers can’t yet find the back of the net, so they have hardly been racking up the points. The midfielders however, have fared much better, with Ramsey and Sanchez leading the way with 26 and 22 points respectively. Neither come cheap, but both are a good source of points with regular goals and assists.

It’s hard to look past Sanchez now that he seems to be finding his stride, having scored in the past two games. The Chilean is arguably Arsenal’s best bet for goals and assists, and he is an almost certain starter. The only negative is his price, with Yaya Toure being the only midfielder to cost more.
A cheaper option would be a revitalized Jack Wilshere at only £6.4 million, but he is now an injury doubt and his price is low because he tends not to score the crucial goals which bring you Fantasy points.
I’m afraid to say that Mesut Ozil still looks far from his best during the early weeks of the season, and at £9m he is an expensive luxury who is failing to provide the required points. The talent and potential is there, but at the moment he is failing to deliver, and with Walcott nearing his return and others also pushing for a place, Ozil may slip out of a regular starting place.
In the same boat is Santi Cazorla, whose main problem is getting the required game time to accumulate points. Arsenal have a lot of options in that area, and the last thing you want is one of your most expensive players sitting on the bench.
Worth a Punt!
It has to be Danny Welbeck, and at £7.1m he’s a bargain. Welbeck may not be a prolific goalscorer, but if he gets a run of games he is bound to score some goals and earn some points in a team that creates numerous chances. If there’s one Arsenal player I’d recommend at the moment, it has to be Welbeck.
What lies in store?
Arsenal’s next three games are Aston Villa away, Spurs at home and then Chelsea away, by all accounts a challenging run of fixtures. On that note it may be best holding back on the Arsenal players until after then, when they have an easier run of fixtures and greater opportunities to accumulate some points.
