Arsenal’s Ivorian forward Gervinho admitted on Thursday that he was “flattered” by reports that Ligue 1 giants Marseille were planning to hire him this summer, as his future with Arsenal remains uncertain.
The 26-year-old moved to the Emirates Stadium from Lille in the summer of 2011 but has struggled to earn a regular place in Arsene Wenger’s starting XI since then.
The Gunners are now looking to recoup some of the £10.5 million they paid the French outfit for his services in the summer of 2011, with Marseille already having declared their interest in the Ivory Coast international.
According to Goal ,he said :
If I really want to leave Arsenal, I’m sure there would be a lot of interest.
Marseille is one of the leading French clubs and I have a good relationship with some people there.
I cannot say yes or no but it is always flattering for a player to know that there are a lot of clubs showing interest in him.

It is true that I had little playing time at Arsenal after the Afcon [Africa Cup of Nations] but it was the choice of the coach, Arsene Wenger.
Now we are on holidays, I’ll take some rest for a while and then come back to seriously think of my future and what to do next.
We still have three weeks to the new season; I think there is enough time to think of my future.
He enjoyed a strong start to the 2012-13 season, but following his return from African Nations Cup duty in February he had started only three matches. Gervinho made 26 appearances for Arsenal last season, scoring seven goals.
Arsenal are expected to spend big on extra firepower, with Gonzalo Higuain thought to be at the top of their wanted list with rumours that a £22 million fee has already been agreed with Real Madrid, meaning Gervinho is likely to be surplus to requirements.
His career at Arsenal started well and I believed that I was right about him, his first game in the Premier League wasn’t great because he was sent off but after that he played just like he had done for the previous couple of seasons. He displayed great dribbling skills and scored a few goals but that was where it ended.
Every time he plays he seems like he can’t really be bothered and he has lost his dribbling mastery that he had just a few years ago. Every time he gets through on goal to an open net, you expect him to miss and he does.
Should Gervinho be given another chance to prove his worth or should he be sold quickly to find a decent replacement?
