Arsenal Midfielder Serge Gnabry admits that it was a dream come true to score his first goal for the Gunners in Saturday’s 2-1 away win against Swansea.
The German forward put the Gunners ahead with a cool finish after a scintillating move from the visitors before Aaron Ramsey doubled Arsenal’s advantage four minutes later.
The 18 year old says he is delighted to be making an impact in the first team and says he is learning a lot from Mertesacker and Ozil in particular.
Speaking to Arsenal’s official website, he said:
Scoring my first goal for Arsenal is something amazing. Everybody dreams of scoring for the first team and I’ve done that today so I’m very happy.
I think my goal was the moment where we broke through and that gave us a lot of belief and a lot of momentum to think we can win the game.
Gnabry also said that he feels at home with fellow Germans Per Mertesacker and Mesut Özil in the squad. He added:
It helps when you’ve got players from the same country speaking the same language. Especially for me as a young player, they talk to me a lot and I can learn a lot from them.
It’s good for Arsenal having these good players in the team.
The German made his first senior start against Stoke City at the Emirates Stadium in unusual circumstances as he was a last minute replacement for Theo Walcott who sustained a abdominal strain just before the match. In Walcott’s absence, Gnabry has taken the chance with both hands and has proved that he can handle the pressure at such a young age. His performance against the Potters was praise worthy considering it was just his first game and against such a physical side was equally impressive.

He then had another chance against West Brom in the Capital One Cup and although he wasn’t as impressive he still managed to put in a decent performance. He once again Gnabry found himself in the starting line up against Swansea on Saturday and produced an excellent performance including scoring his first goal for the senior team.
He is a real talent and his cool finish against Swansea showed that he is oozing in confidence and I’m certain he can only get better with more games under his belt. Hopefully he will utilize this opportunity and compete with Walcott for the first team spot when he eventually comes back from injury.
