Granit Xhaka needs to be patient at Arsenal if he is to become a success at the Emirates, according to his brother Taulant, whose FC Basel side face the Gunners in the Champions League on Wednesday.
The summer signing from Borussia Monchegladbach has only started three games for his new club so far with manager Arsene Wenger preferring Santi Cazorla and Francis Coquelin.
However, Coquelin looks set for a spell on the sidelines after picking up an injury against Chelsea which could allow Xhaka the chance to stake a claim for a place in the starting XI and his brother is confident he is at the right club to improve.
“He needs to be patient but he knows this and I am sure he can progress there,” he told The Telegraph. “Arsene Wenger is a coach who takes a lot of young players – he gives them confidence and also tries to help them as people.
“It was the same when he moved to Germany, he needed time but he learnt a lot. He changed, became more self-confident, more open to people. It was a good step to join Arsenal. Granit is very comfortable, very integrated. He is very happy there and he has already scored some super goals.”
Taulant has also warned his brother and Arsenal they face a tough task against FC Basel, who sit top of their domestic league with a 100 per cent record after nine games.

“To play against Arsenal in the Champions League is a childhood dream. It will be special. We both go into it with the same thoughts; that we need to win and give everything,” he added.
“We speak every day, but before a game sometimes not because we have to focus. We won’t tell each other how the teams play – we are professional. I hope that after the game we can meet quickly. I need to ask the coach, so hopefully we win and he’s in a good mood.”
Xhaka looks dead certain to start alongside Santi Cazorla in the important tie on Wednesday evening, with a long season ahead it is important Wenger can utilize all of his midfielders on a regular basis to ensure freshness. Mohamed Elneny is another who has struggled for game time as a result.
Arsenal’s strong run of form has largely been down to a tested partnership of Cazorla and Coquelin who have played together for a number of seasons now, but Xhaka has the chance to prove his worth and nail down a consistent run in the team.
