According to German newspaper Die Welt, Arsenal are set to miss out on another transfer target as Luis Gustavo has reportedly agreed to join Wolfsburg.
The Gunners appeared to be front runners for the Bayern Munich midfielder’s signature, as they were recently in advanced talks over a proposed £17 million deal.
The Brazilian international even declared his admiration for the north London club and declared that he “would like to play for them”. The defensive midfielder has always had one intention on his mind though, to play regularly and that may have been the stumbling block at Emirates.
The German newspaper claims the 26-year-old has decided to move to Wolfsburg for regular gametime and remain in the Bundesliga rather than head to England.
Arsenal badly need this signing with the defensive midfielder role essentially empty. Arsene Wenger has recently reverted to using agile duo Mikel Arteta and Aaron Ramsey alongside one another in a pivot roles rather than a midfield beast to protect the back four like he has in the past with Alex Song.

While it is not yet a done deal, it is once again frustrating to hear one of our ‘top targets’ chose elsewhere. The Gunners need a defensive minded, versatile player and Gustavo ticked all the boxes.
He is an experienced Brazil international who has played at the highest European level for some time, can shield the defence and even fill in at the back. Bar the price he’s the perfect signing. At £17.2m he is not cheap, but would represent a good signing however it seems Arsene Wenger is not pushing hard enough for it to happen.
Personally I’m going to be very disappointed if this falls through, Gustavo would have been a brilliant acquisition.
