Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski has declared his intention to score a goal against Petr Cech, after a brilliant performance from the Czech international resulted in Bayern losing 2-0 at the Emirates (via the Express). Cech was in top form and saved efforts from Thiago Alcantara, Arturo Vidal, and Thomas Muller, in addition to restricting Lewandowski.
For a player who has scored 22 goals so far this season for club and country, it was a frustrating night only made worse in the knowledge that he has never managed to beat the veteran keeper on both the club and international stage. But with Bayern set to host Arsenal in the Champions League early next month, followed by a Poland-Czech Republic friendly over the international break, Lewandowski is determined to end that streak.
“I have never yet managed to score a goal against him,” he said.
“Not a single goal. And that is despite facing him when Poland have played the Czech Republic at international level as well. It is one of those quirks you get in football.
“He is an absolutely excellent goalkeeper. But it is good to immediately have another chance to try to beat him in the coming weeks, with Arsenal visiting Bayern, and in another Poland match against the Czech Republic next month.
“That match is only a friendly but there is a big rivalry between us and it will be an important part of both our preparations for Euro 2016.”

Bayern’s 12 game winning streak came to and end against Arsenal, and the German champions will be looking to pay the Gunners back in kind when we travel to the Allianz Arena. Even in that game, the pressure will be on us to produce a result, since Bayern are basically guaranteed to go through while we are delicately balanced at the bottom of the group. Hopefully, the boys will band together and produce another masterclass there as well.
