That was as important as it was surprising.
Arsenal fans will be forgiven for heading into this match with more than a little trepidation considering the club’s recent results.
Defeat here would’ve led to Arsenal’s longest losing streak since 1977 and the players seemed determined not to create history.
The Gunners crafted more than their fair share of opportunities in front of goal in the first-half, mostly down the left.

The opening goal came from that side when Mesut Ozil played it out to Henrikh Mkhitaryan on the flank. The Armenian cut in onto his right foot and his deflected shot got past Donarumma in the Milan goal.
The scoreline got to 2-0 in the closing stages of the first-half. Ozil again played a pass but this time it was Aaron Ramsey who broke forward. He calmly rounded the goalkeeper and finished to give the Gunners a commanding lead in the tie.
Arsenal simply sat back and absorbed pressure in the second-half, quite content to take the 2-0 lead back to London.
