Shkodran Mustafi has stated that Arsenal must not do what FC Barcelona did to Roma earlier this week and surrender their first-leg advantage in a Europan quarter-final (via Arsenal.com).
It’s fair to say that it has been a good week of Europan football thus far.
Before Real Madrid’s 97th-minute winning penalty against Juventus last night there was Roma’s incredible comeback against FC Barcelona.
Barcelona took a 4-1 lead to the home of the Italian side but lost 3-0 and were eliminated.
It’s the same first-leg advantage which Arsenal take into the match with CSKA Moscow and defender Shkodran Mustafi was asked if he and the rest of the team were aware of the Roma match.
“I did watch it, I thought Roma did a brilliant job. It isn’t easy when you lose the first game 4-1, especially against Barcelona, a team who can always score,” Mustafi said.

“I think it came as perfect timing for us, to see that it is football, you are never safe especially when you win at home and have the away game.
“You have to be very careful how you show up and I think the game we saw yesterday was perfect timing for us to show us that we have to be really focused and really concentrated to finish off the job we did in the first leg.
“I think they did a brilliant job but it is nothing that surprises me. Now I have been a few years in professional football and I know this happens often.”
It certainly should act as a warning to Arsenal. Teams have come back from bigger deficits in European competitions before and the Gunners should be wary, especially playing out in Russia. To find out whether Arsenal make it to the final four, head to our live stream page.
