Auxerre chairman Guy Cotret has revealed that Yaya Sanogo is unlikely to be loaned back to France once a deal is officially completed with Arsenal.
Reports have suggested the 20-year-old striker has passed a medical and the way his current club have discussed the situation further enhances the likelihood an agreement will be reached soon. A reported 4-year deal is on the table after declining a 2 year extension with his current employers, meaning he will head to North London on a free transfer.
The Ligue 2 club’s were looking at the possibility of taking the centre forward back on loan for the season however it looks as if Arsene Wenger may have plans to integrate him into the first team set up earlier than expected.
After a reported meeting with the Gunners manager on Monday, Auxerre chairman Cotret told a French radio station:
He will only loan him back to us if he considers the player is not ready to join his team after the preseason preparations.
Otherwise he will not loan him.
The French U21 international has been surprisingly prolific, however his injury record is a real worry. Similarly to Diaby who also came up through the Auxerre set-up, Sanogo struggled to string a series of appearances together for the French outfit.

In 2010 he impressed for the French U19 side after performing admirably for the U16 and U17 sides, however he suffered a nasty double break to his leg playing for Auxerre reserves which ended his season. He recovered for the following campaign and was back with the first team, consequently earning a call up for the French U21 side, however injury struck again soon as he suffered issues with his original leg break ruling him out for another year.

He has however made headlines this season after his return in December when he scored on his first game back and then rumours started emerging linking him with Arsenal when he scored seven goals in just two games. Another injury hit but this time to his thigh which ruled him out again until he returned and scored in Auxerre’s last game against Angers.
In three years he only managed seven starts in Ligue 1 – very worrying. He has however netted an impressive 9 goals in 8 appearances this season (4 starts, 4 sub appearances) and when fit is similar to Diaby – a player with huge potential. But the keywords are ‘when fit’.
But for a free signing with an abundance of talent he is worth the punt. He is a physical player with pace that can finish – the attributes we are after. With Chuba Apkom an exciting prospect in the Arsenal reserves it will be interesting who gets introduced into the Gunners squad next season. While Sanogo is not the marquee striker signing we are after, he is a start and one for the future. I’m still hoping for Higuain..
