A number of Arsenal stars took part in a Q&A with the fans recently, with Olivier Giroud among them. The Frenchman was quizzed on who he thought was the toughest defender to play against, and claimed it was hard to choose between Branislav Ivanovic and Vincent Kompany.
The Frenchman claims the Chelsea and Manchester City stars are both tough opponents, and that there is always a fight when he goes up against them.
“In front of Petr, maybe Ivanovic or Kompany from Manchester City. It’s always a tough game against them, a big fight. It was always in good spirits but always very tough,” he said (via Arsenal.com).
Giroud is a powerful forward and he knows how to use his body, his lack of pace means he is never going to race away from his opponents, but he can cause them all sorts of problems with his physical presence.
If Giroud struggles to deal with them, then you know they really must be tough. Ivanovic and Kompany are probably two of the physically strongest players in the Premier League, so it’s not surprising to think our star forward finds them a bit of a handful.
