Alexis Sanchez has recently been tipped to sign a bumper new deal, but it looks as though he could be joined be Mesut Özil as well, according to The Sun.
The German playmaker is apparently in talks to sign a massive new £160,000 deal, joining Alexis Sanchez at the top of the Arsenal earnings table. The two players are unquestionably a cut above the rest of our squad, and the massive price tags they came with were more than worth it. The form both players have shown over the last 18 months also warrants improved deals, as the pair have unquestionably taken us to another level.
It’s obviously in our best interest to tie them down long term too, as we can’t run the risk of losing either player on the cheap. Their phenomenal form will naturally attract interest and suitors from other top European clubs, and at the moment the world class duo are priceless to us.
Özil’s current deal already runs until 2018 (via The Sun), but a player of his quality should be kept on as long a contract as possible. Even getting into the final two years wouldn’t be ideal, so hopefully a deal is agreed and sorted by this summer.
The report suggests we’re simply looking to tag another year onto the deal, guaranteeing he’ll be at the club until at least 2019 – unless he’s sold of course, but who are we kidding?
Özil has been arguably the best No.10 in world football this season, piling the assists and goals on with regularity. He’s been the driving force for our success, especially in Alexis Sanchez’s absence.

We’d be mad not to do everything we can to keep Özil at the club for as long as possible, and the fact that he seems so happy here is a great sign. We should certainly be looking to get him tied down long-term before Mathieu Flamini leaves though, as who knows how he’ll react when his bromance with the Frenchman is torn apart.
