Arsene Wenger has confirmed that Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez are both doubtful for Arsenal’s opening Premier League game of the new campaign against Leicester on Friday night.
Both players missed Sunday’s Community Shield win over Chelsea at Wembley, with the Gunners tasting victory in a penalty shootout, after a 1-1 draw.
However, speaking after the game, Wenger insisted he may have do make do without his key men once again.
Ozil is battling an ankle problem, while Sanchez is short of match fitness having only returned to training this week after his Confederations Cup exploits with Chile.
“Alexis is short of competition,” he said via the Mirror.
“Mesut [Ozil] has a swollen ankle after taking a kick on his ankle. He has a little chance to play on Friday night.”

Aaron Ramsey also missed Sunday’s clash although Wenger was more optimistic about the Welshman’s chances and says “he has a chance” of featuring against the Foxes.
So too does Per Mertesacker, who was replaced at Wembley after a nasty clash of heads left him bleeding and in need of stitches.
“I will have to speak with medical about that, it doesn’t look that bad,” Wenger said of the German when asked about his condition.
Sunday’s win was a great start to the season and the perfect boost for Arsenal as they aim to get off to a winning start against Leicester.
