Arsenal are reportedly preparing a £25.8 million bid for Real Madrid and Argentine winger Angel Di Maria, according to reports in Metro.
The Argentina international will see his first team opportunities limited once the expected arrival of Gareth Bale to the Bernabeu is confirmed and Arsene Wenger is keen to make the most of that situation by launching a club record bid for the impressive wide-man.
The reports further suggests that despite Real’s initial stance that the Argentinean will not be sold, reports in Spain suggest Bale’s arrival may force last season’s league runners-up into a re-think and the Gunners are ready to pounce.
Arsenal were also targeting Madrid’s star striker Karim Benzema, but it seems they will have to look elsewhere as his agent Karim Djaziri, has recently quashed the rumors saying his client has never had any discussions or contact with the Gunners.
The 25 year old is into his fourth season at Real Madrid and has been a consistent source of assists, collecting 53 of them in his 138 appearances for the Spanish giants, as well as scoring 25 goals in the process.
Di Maria’s greatest asset is undoubtedly his dribbling, ability to play key passes and direct style of play. He is an incisive individual who utilizes the space in front of him to great effect, often relying on his pace and skill to bypass the opposition defenders. The winger will be a natural fit for the Gunners which is built on speedy attacking play.

Similar to Theo Walcott and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Di Maria is quick to offer his forwards vital support, often bombing up the flank to create space in promising areas for his team mates. Imagining an Arsenal lineup that includes Di Maria with Walcott and Olivier Giroud,
The potential capture of Di Maria will go some way in satisfying Arsenal fans who have been waiting all summer to see some marquee signings at the emirates. The Gunners reportedly have a war chest in excess of £70 million to spend this summer but have failed to spend even a penny from it till now.
It will be very interesting to see if Di Maria plays or even makes the bench tonight, as Real Madrid travel to Granada in La Liga. If they want to sell him, they might try to force him out of the match. Also they would not want to risk an injury by playing him. So if he plays that more or less means he will stay.
However, it would be premature to jump the gun regarding the signing unless it is confirmed by the Arsenal official website. What do you say Gooners?
