The 23 year old England international moved to the Emirates Stadium in a £16 million deal last Monday after the striker was deemed surplus to requirements at Old Trafford.
Rodgers believes the North London club have bagged themselves a bargain by signing Welbeck, even describing the player as outstanding.
According to Talk Sport, he said:
It’s certainly something Manchester United have not done over the years.
Arsenal will be delighted with the deal. For £16million he’s a great talent. I saw him play for Manchester United against Real Madrid in the Champions League a few years ago and he was outstanding.
Arsenal will be happy, they have got a very good player, and Manchester United strategically felt they could let him go.
The Englishman might not be a blockbuster signing, but his qualities and attributes should enable him to fit harmoniously into Wenger’s footballing philosophy. The most destructive facets of his play are his constant pressing on defenses, his work rate and, vitally, his pace. Giroud might be more of a natural goal scorer, but the youngster will bring an energy and dynamism that the Gunners have recently been lacking in the final third.

He is regularly a big-game player for England and his two goals during Monday’s victory over Switzerland further enforces that notion. He has been extremely useful on the international stage and in bursts during his club career, but now is the time to add goal scoring consistency. It is the time for Welbeck to offer more than relentless energy and selflessness to the Gunners, he needs to be selfish in a central role and finally bang home regular Premier League goals.
He could be set to make his full debut against Manchester City on Saturday and should head in with full confidence after his international exploits. If he can produce the goods, Wenger’s perhaps underwhelming end to the transfer window will prove to be a stroke of genius.
