Toby Alderweireld will miss Tottenham’s Champions League match against Bayer Leverkusen on Wednesday after apparently suffering a setback with his injury. The centre-back has missed the last couple of weeks and is now a major doubt for the North London Derby on Sunday.
Spurs are still performing well but are missing a couple of their star players with the North London Derby just six days away. Harry Kane and Toby Alderweireld have both been out for a while but both players were hoping to be fit for Sunday’s match at the Emirates. That could now be in doubt.
Toby Alderweireld had been hoping to make his comeback in Spurs’ Champions League match against Bayer Leverkusen but he has been ruled out of the clash.
Belgian journalist Kristof Terreur has called the injury “complicated” and says that while Alderweireld is back in training, he is doing so without the ball. The result is that the defender is out of the match at Wembley and is a doubt for their trip to the Emirates.
It’s a bitter blow to Spurs and good news for Arsenal fans. The centre back is a key player to their side and the result is that Eric Dier will once again have to fill in at centre back. The centre-back pairing of Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen was key to Spurs’ success last term so he will be a big miss should he miss Sunday’s match.
