Arsenal recently launched a £40,000,001 bid for Liverpool forward Luis Suarez, a bid believed to activate a release clause meaning they can essentially prize the Uruguay from the Merseyside club. The attempt will allow the striker to talk with Arsenal though in which they are entitled to attempt to entice him to London and will then have to follow up with a larger bid to secure his services should it all go ahead.
The situation in Spain is pretty straight forward when it comes to ‘buyout clauses’, a new club meets the set amount and then they can negotiate. However in England the situation is quite different, so have a listen to this interesting interview with Graham Shear; of Berwin Leighton Paisner (part of a Litigation and Dispute Resolution team) who has worked on a number of high profile ‘tapping up’ cases such as the Ashley Cole fiasco.
The interview attempts to dissect the possible complexities of the Luis Suarez contract issue however Shear himself has not seen the contract and is basing it off his vast and immense experience in such cases.
