Arsenal’s defence has been a vital part of their resurgence into the top three with Koscielny and Gibbs vital cogs in the Arsenal back four. But Andre Santos will be itching to take his chance at leftback against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Wendesday evening, with Johan Djourou the likely replacement to partner Vermaelen in the heart of defence.
Arsène Wenger has revealed the following team news on Arsenal’s official website:
[on the team news] Gibbs is out with a fatigue of his groin, so Santos is back. Koscielny is of course suspended for two games and Gervinho is ruled out with an ankle problem. Squillaci and Park come in. The squad is quite easy to pick because all the players available are in.
[on Gibbs] Gibbs is short-term, it is more fatigue than an injury. Santos comes straight back.

[on Gervinho] He is short-term as well. He had a test today which was not completely satisfying but he is not far.
[on reports Per Mertesacker had started training] No, no, no, he is still in Germany for his rehab and he is starting his running but he is not back in training. He is fine though.
The midfield and attacking lineup is most likely to be the same that faced City with Benayoun retaining his place after his hard working performance. Rosicky should remain in the attacking midfielder role as he has shown time and time again that he is a far better option than Ramsey at the moment, with Walcott likely to be handed his usual spot on the right wing.
Wednesday’s match is a vital one for the Gunners as they can potentially open a nice five point gap between themselves and fourth placed Spurs/Newcastle. The last thing Arsenal need to do is spurn the opportunity to give themselves a bit of breathing room so they will need to give everything and must not repeat their abysmal performance against QPR.
