Gunners captain and talisman Robin van Persie has won the PFA Player of the Year award after a sensational season that has seen the Dutchman top the goalscoring charts in England so far after scoring an impressive 33 goals in all competitions.
The striker managed to pip Sergio Aguero, David Silva, Joe Hart, Wayne Rooney and Scott Parker to receive the illustrious Premier League award, after an amazing personal campaign where he has often taken matches by the scruff of the neck and gained 3 points time and time again for the Gunners this season. He has been at the forefront of a remarkable turn around for the North London side as they are on the verge of automatic Champions League qualification.
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain too can take pride in the fact that he was nominated for The Young Player of the Year award, but unfortunately rivals Tottenham Hotspur’s celebrate after earning the award through fullback Kyle Walker who beat Oxlade-Chamberlain, Gareth Bale, Daniel Sturridge, Danny Welbeck and Sergio Aguero.
This is the second year in a row that the Gunners have won an award at the Premier League awards ceremony with Jack Wilshere claiming the Young Player of the Year award last season, so Wenger can be proud of his efforts of creating world class players again and again.
But congratulations to Robin Van Persie, a well deserved award after an amazing season for the Dutchman. It’s his first full season not only as a centre-forward but his first season that hasn’t been blighted by injuries. Let’s all hope that this award and his love for the club will see the Dutchman re-sign this summer and lead the Gunners out onto the pitch next season.
