Arsenal’s young star Gedion Zelalem produced an eye-catching display as our U-19 side began their participation in the Durban U-19 International Tournament with a 4-2 win against Celtic.
As well as setting up our opening goal with a delightful defence-splitting pass, Zelalem netted from the spot with a cheeky panenka which was almost identical to the one Alexis Sanchez dispatched in the Copa America final to win the trophy.
Zelalem was part of the squad in our pre-season tour of Singapore, but his lack of involvement in the Emirates Cup suggests that his involvement in the first team will be limited in the upcoming campaign.
The likes of Alex Iwobi and Jeff Reine-Adelaide have clearly taken their chances and hopefully we’ll see Arsene Wenger reverting to his previous philosophy of using the Capital One Cup to blood youngsters.
