Congratulations to Vikinggooner for his thoughts in allArsenal’s competition: Who do you think Arsenal should buy/sell this winter?
He is one of the three winners, stay posted this week for the other successful entries. Here is VikingGooner’s entry:
So before I start off, I would just like to say: Arsenal can become the team we are supposed to be. Impossible is nothing.
We had a reported transfer budget of 40m last summer, right? We sold players for about 75m worth. That means 115m was left. We spent 45m on transfers, so by my math we should have a transfer budget of 70m give or take. I think we need to restructure. A lot. We have a few players out on loan right now: Vela, Bendtner, Denilson and Lansbury among them. They’ll get us just a bit short of 30m. Probably. And in all honesty, yes, their services are no longer needed. Transfer budget now 100m.
At this point it would be nice to get in some new players, my choices and the reasons for why they are chosen:

Price tag: 25-35m
Podolski. Because Chamakh is not suited for the EPL and JS Park isn’t allowed near the pitch. So we’re basically screwed if RVP gets injured. Theo Walcott can play as a forward, so that means we’ll be well covered. Even if Park and Chamakh were to leave.
Price tag: 12-15m
(I would prefer Falcao or Hulk over Podolski any day, but they aren’t really available)
Marek Hamsik. Because he’s the best that we’d be able to lay our hands on as a creative midfielder.
Price tag: 20-25 m
So that’s three players in right there. For about 60-70m. Transfer budget now 35m.
Now we can offload a few players.
Let’s say goodbye to the trophyless-era by erasing Almunia, Mannone, Squillaci, Djourou, Diaby, Rosicky, Arshavin, Park, Chamakh from the Arsenal history books. Let’s say we’ll be able to fetch 50-60m for them. Transfer budget now 90m.
Now we need players to replace the missing ones.
In the defensive department, Ignasi Miquel seems to be a player who can step in as cover for our centre backs. We can also add Paris Saint Germain captain Mamadou Sakho to our inventory for 20-25 m. Thereby covering the loss of Squilacci and Djourou.
We have a problem with our left-back spot, as I see neither Gibbs nor Santos as good enough first-choice left backs. I hereby suggest buying Taye Taiwo from AC Milan. Who has already issued a plea to leave the Italian giants. This deal will set us back for somewhere between 10 and 15 million.
I suggest buying a new second-choice goalkeeper, someone to make Fabianski our third-choice.
In midfield we’ll be covered as Wilshere is returning to fitness, and Hamsik is already brought in.
By my calculations we still have 55 million left in our transfer budget.
HELLO, Eden f*****g Hazard.
He is amazing. He is TV5’s cousin. He costs 40m. Even now we have 15m pounds to shove up Ivan Gazidis’ ass.
Making our starting eleven look something like this:
Sagna – Koscielny – Vermaelen – Taiwo
Song – Hamsik
And the rest of our squad:
GK: Szczesny, unnamed second choice GK, Fabianski
DF: Taiwo, Sagna, Koscielny, Mertesacker, Vermaelen, Miquel, Gibbs, Sakho, Santos, Jenkinson
MID: Hamsik, Hazard, Götze, Arteta, Ramsey, Song, Wilshere, Frimpong, Benayoun, Coquelein
ATT: RVP, Walcott, AOC, Gervinho, Miyaichi, Podolski.
