Alexis Sanchez is a pleasure to play alongside in the team, according to Arsenal striker Danny Welbeck. Welbeck is the latest in the line after Arsene Wenger, Mikel Arteta and Mathieu Flamini to praise Man of the Moment Alexis Sanchez. Sanchez is Arsenal’s top scorer with 8 goals to his name and it’s a phenomenal start for a player adjusting to life in the Premier league.
Sanchez scored both the goals in the 2-0 win over Sunderland and has received widespread acclaim for his performances. The Chilean was even compared to the now Barcelona forward Luis Suarez by his teammate Alex Oxlade Chamberlain.
Welbeck says it was the Gunners tactic to press the nervy Sunderland backline and Alexis embodied the plan better than the rest.
The boss told us before the game to press their back four and try to force mistakes. The first goal came from that, so it was something that worked quite well today. It’s a pleasure to play with Alexis. He’s persistent, he keeps going and they are [the attributes of] somebody I like to play alongside. It’s the same with all the other players in the team. I’m really getting to know the players much better now and hopefully now we can go on a nice run of winning games.
We’ve had two away games and got two wins. We’ve set the platform now and the main thing is to build on that. We showed character and we’re going to have to stick it out when it gets tough and nitty gritty in the next games.
The Sunderland victory was an important one and hopefully we build on that performance for the coming games. We finally got a clean sheet and nothing gives the defence confidence like a hard fought clean sheet. Come on Gunners, let’s get on a winning run.
