Arsene Wenger has laughed off suggestions that Alexis Sanchez is out of shape and claims the Chilean is focussed on the season for Arsenal (via Arsenal.com).
It’s probably hard to keep Alexis Sanchez out of the press right now. After failing to land a deadline day move to Manchester City and with just one season left on his contract, the Chilean is on everyone’s lips.
However, in the last few days, things have been taken to an extreme. Reports in Chile claimed that after his performances for his country, the only explanation for Sanchez’s loss of form could be that he is overweight.
It’s something which would be completely unheralded. Alexis Sanchez is known to have a tremendous, almost obsessive interest in personal fitness and now, Arsene Wenger has brushed off these claims.
“He is disciplined, serious and committed. He is focused,” Wenger told Arsenal’s official website. “He told me he is focused on the Premier League and Europa League. On top of that Chile had a bad experience, but he came back full of desire and was ready to play.
“He is not fat. His fat percentage is under ten, so that’s not fat, but you know how it is when you don’t win, people find every problem for you.

“He was not completely physically ready to start three games in a week and certainly for Chile he was not completely ready as well.”
Alexis Sanchez certainly hasn’t had his best performances as a footballer in the last couple of matches for club and country. However, to draw the conclusion that he is unfit or overweight is laughable.
